!Iron Clad Electromagnet! (Magnet Tricks & Magnets How Do They Work?) SCIENCE EXPERIMENTCrazy Chris is testing electromagnetism and shows you how to make your own electromagnet right at home!Objective: To understand how electric currents create an electromagnetic field around the wire the electrons flow in.Materials:
 ~  6V Battery
 ~  Copper Wire
 ~  Large Iron Nail
 ~  Alligator ClipsStep 1) Wrap the copper wire around the large iron nail so that it spirals around the nail from one end to the other. Do this 2 more more times to get the best results.Step 2) Using wire strippers strip the plastic off the copper wire and attach the wire using alligator clips. ~WARNING THE WIRE GETS HOT~Step 3) Bring the nails exposed end near some paper clips and watch the nail attract the paper clips.Step 4) Remove one of the wires attached to the battery and notice how some of the paper clips stay attached.HOW IT WORKS:
An electromagnet is any magnet in which a magnetic field is produced by the flow of electons. When you attach the wire to a battery you create an electric circut and causes electrons to flow in a wire. As this electric current flows in a wire it creates a magnetic field around the wire. Wrapping the wire around an iron core increases the electromagetic energy because the elctormagnet feild passes through the iron core center creating a magnet. The magnetic field disappears when the electric current is gone, which is why most o the paper clips fall off the nail. The reason some of the paper cliops still hang on is because of residual magnetisum. As the electrons flow in a wire they pull the electrons in the nail causing them to line up into microscopic magnets. When the currnet is gone some of the molecules in the nail are still lined up like tiny magnets making the iron nail a magnetly charge. The iron clad magnet works the same way as the simple electromagnet does. The only differences are an iron clad maget has a thin wire wrapped around an iron core hundreds of times and has iron jacket surrounding the entire things which holds almost all of the electromagnet feild creating an extreamly strong magnetic energy.
